A space of support, growth and warmth

Activities for children with disabilities and their parents foster development, provide support and create a sense of community

The “Step Forward” project is aimed at supporting the adaptation of middle-aged children with disabilities and their parents who are registered in the program. These meetings are always eagerly awaited – by both children and adults. Here, they find not only engaging activities, but also care, attention and a sense of safety.

Over the past two weeks, several meaningful sessions have taken place, and we are pleased to share them. We focused on developing spatial thinking, coordination and reaction speed. Through games, logical exercises and puzzles, we stimulated cognitive activity, trained memory and strengthened concentration skills. The игровий format helps children overcome challenges more easily and discover their own abilities.

As part of art therapy, participants were introduced to a modern art movement – op art, the art of optical illusions. For many, this became a true discovery. By creating their own works, children experimented with shapes and lines, learned to see the extraordinary in the ordinary and celebrated their achievements. Creativity became another step toward building self-confidence.

A special, truly warm atmosphere is created by the puppet theatre, which we use as a therapeutic tool. What matters here is not a performance for an audience, but the opportunity to express emotions, experience them in a safe space and become part of a shared story. On Hug Day, we created a fairytale together where everyone became a character, and the ending was happy – filled with hugs, smiles and sincere emotions.

Communication does not end after the sessions. Children and parents stay connected in a shared group, exchanging impressions, achievements and words of support. They eagerly look forward to the next meeting, as it is incredibly important for them to feel part of something shared, meaningful and kind.

“Step Forward” is not only about developing skills. It is about the journey toward confidence, mutual support and the belief that together, any challenge can be overcome.
