A Taste of Shavuot
Ahead of Shavuot, children from JFS families learned more about the holiday and made their own milkshakes
Very soon, Jewish communities around the world will celebrate Shavuot - a special holiday marking the giving of the Torah, family warmth, traditions and genuine joy. Ahead of the holiday, children from JFS families took part in an educational and delicious workshop that introduced them to Shavuot traditions in a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.
During the gathering, the children learned more about the history of the holiday, its meaning and symbols, and discussed the tradition of preparing dairy foods for Shavuot. They immediately had a chance to put their new knowledge into practice - this time not just by hearing about the tradition, but by making their own festive treat.
Each participant made their own special milkshake. The children cut the fruit themselves, added ice cream and milk, and then watched with great excitement as all the ingredients turned into a delicious drink. In the end, every milkshake was unique - with its own combination of flavors and, of course, a special touch of childhood joy.
Gatherings like these help introduce children to Jewish traditions in a simple and engaging way through their own experience. When they can not only hear about a holiday but literally taste it, knowledge turns into vivid memories that stay with them for a long time.
We thank the Hesed Children's Program for communicating with parents and helping transport the children to the center. Special thanks also go to the volunteers who created this warm gathering for the children and once again gave them their attention, care and good spirits.
