Challahs with Warmth

Volunteers baked round challahs and pomegranate-shaped challahs for the Hesed clients, sharing warmth and the symbolism of the holiday

On Rosh Ha-Shanah, there is a beautiful tradition – to enjoy round challah with honey, a symbol of the year’s cycle and a new beginning. This year, our volunteers decided to make the holiday preparations even more special.

The volunteers gathered in a cozy kitchen filled with the aroma of fresh dough, honey, and spices. Each participant carefully kneaded the dough, following traditional recipes – some braided the challahs in the classic shape, while others shaped them like pomegranates, a symbol of fertility, abundance, and the multiplication of good deeds.

The process was filled with warmth and sincerity. They exchanged tips, laughed, and enjoyed the moment – the scent of freshly baked challah filling the air, the golden loaves gradually taking shape and becoming beautifully appetizing. Each challah carried not only the taste of the holiday but also the care, attention, and love the volunteers poured into their work.

These challahs became small symbols of support for Hesed’s clients: a piece of round challah or a pomegranate-shaped one served as a reminder of the community’s warmth, the goodness we can create together, and the fact that the year will become what we fill it with – love, attention, and sincerity toward one another.

The holiday in our center became especially cozy and heartfelt thanks to the volunteers’ effort, their skillful hands, and their sincere hearts. Each challah is a small, yet very meaningful reminder that care and love truly make the world a better place.
