Cooking Hummus Workshop
The connection between generations has always been an essential element of the Jewish community.
Our volunteer centers in the Volunteer Community network pay special attention to creating engaging initiatives for different age groups.
The volunteer center of the Chesed Shaarei Zion Foundation organized a culinary workshop on making hummus, which was conducted by a volunteer from the Hillel Odessa student organization.
Student volunteers from the Odessa Volunteer Community regularly hold various educational events for the beneficiaries of Chesed. In addition to online Shabbats, they organize workshops and other exciting activities.
More than 20 people joined the workshop and prepared three different types of hummus: traditional, spicy (with added spices), and meaty. The aroma and taste were so inviting that people passing by couldn't resist and joined in for a tasting. And, of course, they were delighted with the taste!
The volunteer also shared the history of hummus, this ancient dish with many claimants to its creator, including Greeks, Turks, Syrians, and other Middle Eastern peoples. It's essential to note that almost all the ingredients used to make hummus are staples of local cuisine for many centuries.
We are deeply grateful to our volunteers for their commitment to improving and enriching the lives of elderly people. Compassion prolongs life and makes it brighter!
