Dog Day

Volunteers from Cherkasy Volunteer Community visited the “Druh” shelter and brought joy to the dogs through companionship

On August 26, the world celebrates International Dog Day - a holiday that reminds us of love, care, and responsibility toward our four-legged friends. For volunteers of the Cherkasy Volunteer Community, operating under the ChOBEF “Hesed Dorot,” this day holds special meaning, as helping animals is a constant part of their work.

One of the warmest areas of volunteer activity is visiting the “Druh” dog shelter, which takes place at least once a month. It has become a cherished tradition, bringing joy to both people and animals.

Before each visit, volunteers gather food, equipment, used clothing for bedding, and sometimes toys - anything that can make the lives of the dogs more comfortable. But the most valuable gift they give is their time and attention.

For dogs, the most important things are communication and walks. The shelter houses many animals, each waiting for the chance to leave the enclosure, breathe fresh air, run, and feel freedom. An hour of walking is a true celebration for the dogs and a way for volunteers to show love and care through action.

These meetings fill hearts with warmth and remind us that kindness is measured not by words, but by deeds. The Cherkasy volunteers prove this every time they visit the shelter - with open hearts, packages of help, and sincere smiles.
