"Generational memory"

From the history of separate locations and people that leave there we can retrieve the history of our country.

The graveyard itself was abandoned and it was hard to even identify Jewish gravestones, but from the tales of locals there should have been several of them. At the place of the Jewish genocide was funded a special symbol. Without thinking for too long, volunteers started to clean up the weathered graveyard. A worthy deed of worthy people.

The Rivne Volunteer Community and Khmelnytskyi Charity Foundation ”Hesed Besht” have founded the project “Generational memory” to support the further renovation of the graveyard.

The graveyard is located in a very old settlement Varkovich. During 20’s and 30’s, Varkovich was very developed and was home for many Jews who had their own marketplaces. On every Wednesday, fairs were organized near the center of the town. June 22nd, 1941 fascist planes have appeared on the peaceful sky of Varkovish and the first bombs have dropped. The center of the town was whipped away; most of the families were left without homes. On October 7th, 1942 has begun mass shooting of Jews in Varkovich. Predominant population that were murdered that day are women, kids, elders, approximately 2495 people.

From the history of separate locations and people that leave there we can retrieve the history of our country. A person cannot live without a carrying the memories previous generations.
