Lesson of Memory
The memory of the Holocaust and its victims is an important and inseparable part of our history.
In Mykolaiv, near the monument to the victims of the Holocaust, the annual Lesson of Memory took place. This special event is held at the location where, in September 1941, Nazi occupiers herded the Jews of the city of Mykolaiv.
Marching along the present-day avenue and nearby streets, columns of women, elderly people, and children moved towards the ill-fated place - the Jewish cemetery. It was enclosed by a fence, and for several days, people were taken there for execution. Over 10,000 individuals, nearly the entire remaining Jewish population of the city, became victims solely because of their Jewish heritage.
On this day, we gathered to remember and pay tribute to the memory of those who fell victim to hatred, fanaticism, and the madness of the Holocaust. This tragedy reminds us of the betrayal of universal human values and the destructive power of hatred. We must remain vigilant to ensure that such events never recur.
The memory of the Holocaust and its victims is an important and inseparable part of our history. Knowledge of the past enables us to understand the causes and conditions that led to such a devastating catastrophe.
May every Lesson of Memory serve as a reminder of the need to combat prejudice, hatred, and intolerance. We call on everyone to remember the history of this tragedy to build a more just, humane, and tolerant society.
Let's work together to preserve these memorable events, pass them on to future generations, and ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.
