Light and Joy of Shabbat
An example of how small but thoughtfully planned actions can bring joy and light into life.
Volunteers from DVC and Hillel Dnipro help lonely community members welcome Shabbat, observing all traditions. Within the "Shabbat to Go" project, volunteers deliver to the homes of elderly people the necessary items for the Shabbat table, but more importantly, they provide the opportunity to rid themselves of loneliness and celebrate the holiday in pleasant company.
Actions within the project are carried out monthly. Hosts gratefully accept the gifts brought: fragrant fresh challah, kosher juice, and Shabbat candles, without which the festive evening cannot do. Then, together with the volunteers, they perform the Kiddush, paying tribute to Jewish traditions. Thanks to the volunteers, our lonely beneficiaries welcome Shabbat just like all other members of the community.
The role of volunteers in this project is hard to overestimate. They are not just couriers delivering everything necessary for the holiday. They become guides to the world of Jewish traditions, helping to uphold the spirit of the entire nation. The "Shabbat to Go" project demonstrates how much individual efforts of each of us mean for the greater good. We express immense gratitude to the volunteers for bringing light and joy into the lives of our beneficiaries, who need special attention and care!
