Light of memory through the years

On January 27, we honor the memory of Holocaust victims and preserve history for the sake of the future

Every year on January 27, the world observes the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust. On this day in 1945, the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum was liberated - a symbol of mass human extermination. During its operation, approximately 1.4 million people were murdered here, more than a million of whom were Jews.

The Holocaust was a deliberate policy of the Nazi regime that led to the extermination of six million Jews between 1933 and 1945. For every Jewish family, this word represents unspeakable pain, loss, and broken destinies. We remember the destroyed communities, the martyrs of ghettos and death camps, and honor the courage of Jewish resistance and those who fought with arms to bring victory closer.

On this day, staff, volunteers, and program participants of Cherkasy Regional Charitable Jewish Fund Hesed Dorot gathered to light memorial candles, recite prayers, and observe a moment of silence in honor of the innocent victims.

Memory of the Holocaust is not only about mourning but also about responsibility. It obliges us to protect human dignity, oppose hatred, and do everything possible to ensure such tragedies never happen again.
