Long-lasting Friendship
Volunteers from the "Grandchild for an Hour" project meet with their elderly ward in Israel after a long period of online communication.
Within the framework of the wonderful "Grandchild for an Hour" project, an unexpected offline meeting took place with an elderly ward who had left the country due to the war.
The story of the elderly woman's communication with volunteers from our center in Odessa began many years ago when they started regularly visiting their ward to provide her with emotional and tangible physical support. Together with their "grandmother," they celebrated holidays, learned crochet, drank tea, and discussed various topics.
Regular meetings led to the emergence of a genuine friendship, for which neither age nor different life experiences became obstacles. Unfortunately, the "live meetings" came to an end when the war started, and the elderly woman was evacuated to Israel. However, the young volunteers continued to communicate online to support their ward in challenging conditions.
Recently, Fate provided a unique opportunity for the reunion of the "grandchildren" and their "grandmother" when two "granddaughters" were in Israel as part of an educational program, and another "grandchild" flew in from Germany. Like-minded people had the opportunity to meet again, spend time together, share their experiences, and support each other.
This story is an example that friendship knows no boundaries! We hope that this meeting will be just one of many, and this wonderful friendship will last for many years to come. We wish our elderly ward health and happiness, up to 120!
