Sweet Midrash
Around 40 participants celebrated Rosh Hashanah at Kyiv Hesed with a culinary midrash featuring family recipes
Rosh Hashanah without a festive table? Hard to imagine in Jewish tradition! The New Year is a time for generous treats, long conversations, warm wishes and gatherings that bring people together. This was exactly the atmosphere of the festive culinary midrash "A Sweet Year on a Plate!", organized for Rosh Hashanah at the Kyiv Hesed Volunteer Center.
Around 40 center clients attended the celebration. Seven participants - clients and volunteers - demonstrated their culinary talents by preparing favorite family dishes. Behind every recipe were special memories, family stories and traditions passed down through generations. These were more than just recipes - they were true family treasures preserving memories of loved ones and important moments in life.
That day, participants not only cooked and shared recipes but also told family stories, remembered loved ones and compared culinary traditions. Every dish became a reason for sincere conversation, while familiar flavors brought back warm memories. In this way, the culinary midrash became a gathering where food united people and helped them appreciate the value of their shared history.
Of course, there were plenty of holiday greetings! Participants wished one another a good and sweet year, called out "Shanah Tovah!", laughed, joined the activities and received prizes. The most anticipated moment was tasting the prepared dishes. After all, no matter how fascinating recipes and their stories may be, the best way to discover culinary traditions is around a shared table.
The organizers note that more and more people want to join the culinary midrash gatherings. And it is no surprise: these events offer a chance not only to learn something new or share personal experience, but also to meet like-minded people, talk and spend time in a truly family-like atmosphere. Here, everyone can feel part of a community that values personal stories, respects traditions and enjoys coming together.
Jewish holidays are special because of moments like these - generous tables, cheerful conversations, family recipes, gifts and kind words. After such gatherings, people return home not only well-fed but also warmed by attention, conversation and a sense of unity.
We sincerely thank the Kyiv Hesed Volunteer Center for the opportunity to gather again, preserve traditions and create new shared memories. May the new year 5787 be sweet, generous and peaceful. May every home be filled with prosperity and harmony, and may there always be room at the festive table for loved ones, friends and new acquaintances.
Shanah Tovah Umetukah! May the new year bring as many opportunities as possible to meet, share kindness and exchange warm words!
