Sweet Mission

Volunteers make jam with love to bring warmth to older adults for Rosh Hashanah

Summer is a season of generosity, warmth, and good deeds. It is during this time that the annual nationwide Good Jam Day campaign begins, bringing hearts together around a simple yet profoundly meaningful goal - delivering not just a jar of homemade jam, but also a piece of warmth and care to older adults in celebration of Rosh Hashanah.

This year, volunteers once again took up their beloved task -making jam that carries the taste of childhood. Berries are gathered from gardens and summer homes, brought from personal baskets, and shared along with the joy of the harvest. The kitchen becomes a true celebration -the air filled with the aroma of raspberries, apricots, and strawberries, along with a sense of unity and togetherness.

But the main ingredient in every jar is care, memories, and the desire to make the holiday special. Every spoonful of this jam carries the flavor of childhood, recalling the moments when grandmothers lovingly prepared sweet preserves for the winter, filling the home with the scent of happiness and comfort.

For many older adults, these gifts are more than just treats. They serve as a bridge to warm memories, family stories, and the reassuring feeling that someone remembers them and cares for them.

Our volunteers are the true heroes of this sweet mission. They gather, wash, cut, cook, package, and decorate each jar, infusing it with sincerity and love. For some, it is simply jam; for others, it is a symbol of attention, support, and joy.

We thank everyone who contributed! You are creating more than just a delicious treat - you are creating acts of kindness that live in glass jars and are opened alongside a smile. May every spoonful of this jam serve as a reminder of humanity, warmth, and the power of unity.
