The Story of the Tram
Community members discovered the history of the Odesa tram through facts, humor, and vivid memories
A meeting dedicated to the history of the Odesa tram became not only educational, but also truly warm and emotional for community members. It was led by a volunteer of the "Jewish Museum of Odesa" project at Odesa Volunteer Community Migdal, who introduced participants to this familiar symbol of the city from a completely new perspective.
The history of the tram in Odesa turned out to be remarkably multifaceted. Alongside tragic pages of history, it is filled with jokes, songs, and anecdotes that have long become part of the city’s folklore. This is exactly why, in 2012, the Odesa tram was featured by Forbes magazine as one of the 12 most interesting trams in the world - due to its strong presence in culture, literature, and cinema.
Participants of the meeting discovered that the tram is connected to far more than it may seem at first glance. It reflects the city’s architectural heritage, the unique features of its urban planning, and countless stories of the people who helped shape this part of Odesa’s history.
The presentation was accompanied by fascinating facts, photographs from different historical periods, and little-known details that helped participants feel the atmosphere of the city more deeply and better understand its unique character.
Such meetings not only expand knowledge, but also create warm memories, unite people, and allow them to see familiar things from a new perspective.
We sincerely thank our volunteer for the engaging dialogue, inspiration, and the opportunity to discover new pages of Odesa’s history together.
