The taste of Shavuot traditions

As part of the "Dialogue of Generations" project, a warm culinary masterclass took place on the eve of Shavuot

Shavuot is more than just a holiday. It is a special time when we remember the giving of the Torah, celebrate the wheat harvest, and honor the spiritual light that guides us. By tradition, Shavuot is marked by dairy dishes — a symbol of softness, purity, and renewal. But it is also a celebration of taste, with tables filled with fragrant cheesecakes, sweet pancakes, pashtidot, burekas, and a variety of cheese desserts that bring families together.

At our masterclass, participants prepared cheesecake muffins with raisins and chocolate topping. It began with shared preparations — stories about recipes, kind tips from volunteers, memories of “those very cheesecakes from childhood.” Then came the dough mixing, laughter, the scent of vanilla, and the warmth of friendly conversation. Together, we made 30 fluffy, delicious muffins, which were immediately shared among participants — accompanied by tea, smiles, and kind words.

This event is more than just cooking. It is an opportunity to come together around a common task, pass on traditions, and feel needed. For older participants, it is the joy of active involvement; for younger ones, it is a chance to learn, contribute, and support. And in this lies the true “dialogue of generations.”

We believe there is incredible power in these simple moments — in dough kneaded with love, in conversations between generations, in shared laughter over a slightly burnt muffin, in the care expressed even through a recipe passed from hand to hand.

May our future gatherings continue to be just as delicious, heartfelt, and unifying. Chag Shavuot Sameach!
