Visits by Volunteers to "Warm Homes"
Students, volunteers from Odesa Volunteer Community/Hillel Odesa, came with gifts, treats, and interesting programs!
For the volunteers of Odesa Volunteer Community/Hillel Odesa, visits to the wards of the Charitable Foundation "Hesed Shaarei Zion" have become a kind tradition. Every year, young people come to the homes for the elderly with gifts and engaging programs.
Such visits allow them to get to know their wards better, learn about their personal stories—they deserve to be shared. This time, much attention was devoted to the history of the Jewish people and their fate during World War II. We also discussed the current situation of Jews and the influence of Jewish roots on a person's life.
The hospitable hosts enthusiastically shared their lives, love, and family stories. Many of them experienced the tragic loss of loved ones but found the strength to keep living. The strength of spirit and faith in the future is what allows them to live and enjoy life. Significant support comes from families that honor Jewish traditions and customs. And, of course, traditional culinary recipes passed down from generation to generation sparked great interest among the youth.
Volunteers and their wards derive great pleasure from such meetings, where experience and wisdom meet with youth and curiosity. Cultural exchange between generations helps maintain the spirit of our community.
