Weeks of Care That United the Community

As part of the GDD Campaign, volunteers supported elderly people, helped social institutions, and created kindness together

The global Good Deeds Day campaign once again united the Rivne community around simple yet deeply meaningful acts of kindness. For the eighth consecutive year, RVC volunteers have joined the international initiative as local organizers, transforming the Day of Good Deeds into a story of responsibility, intergenerational unity, and everyday care for those around us.

The first good deed of this year was helping an elderly community member who lived alone, was hospitalized, and needed special support. Volunteers cleaned his apartment so that upon returning home, he would be greeted not by loneliness and anxiety, but by comfort, care, and the warmth of human hearts. Sometimes, it is precisely such simple actions that become the greatest form of support.

As part of the campaign, teenage volunteers took on another important task - renovating a public playground near Hesed. They themselves once played there, and today it serves children from neighboring homes and young participants in community programs. Together, they painted swings and play structures, turning ordinary work into a symbol of responsibility for shared spaces and care for future generations.

Initiatives for elderly people held a special place in the campaign program. Female volunteers baked challah and muffins with their own hands for residents of a geriatric care institution. For many of the women, homemade pastries became not only a treat but also a reminder of the warmth of family and the value of human attention.

A visit to the women's geriatric care institution became one of the most touching moments of the campaign. Volunteers brought sweets, fruit, tea, and coffee, sang songs, read poems, and simply spent time talking with the women. Behind the sincere smiles and words of gratitude were difficult life stories, but it was human presence and warmth that made the day truly special.

The Day of Good Deeds also served as a reminder that volunteering does not end with calendar dates. Volunteers continued supporting an elderly man who, after a major surgery, is learning to live under new circumstances. They regularly bring him hot homemade meals, helping him not to face difficulties alone. His birthday became especially meaningful when, together with his lunch, he received a birthday cake and his favorite coffee - small gestures of attention that bring a sense of support and care.

Another good deed was preparing meals for people facing difficult life circumstances. In a friendly atmosphere, volunteers and children worked together to prepare large portions of homemade vinaigrette salad. The young participants worked alongside the adults, and the "Day of Good Deeds" bracelets on their wrists became symbols of unity and the desire to make the world a kinder place.

Good Deeds Day once again proved that acts of kindness do not require great resources. They are born from a sincere desire to be there for others, to support them, and to share a part of one's time and warmth. It is from these simple yet meaningful actions that a strong community is built - one in which no one is left alone.
