Project "Shabbat Guest"

Engaging elderly individuals with limited mobility in the active life of the community and enhancing their quality of life

Project "Shabbat Guest"

Elderly individuals with limited mobility often become victims of loneliness, which negatively affects their psychological well-being and overall quality of life. The wonderful project "Shabbat Guest" allows us to involve such individuals in the life of our community and help maintain important Jewish traditions.

Project Description:

Within the framework of the project, volunteers visit elderly and mobility-limited members of the community twice a month for a Shabbat gathering. All traditions are observed: volunteers bring fresh challah and other necessary attributes for the festive meal. In addition to upholding traditions, such gatherings provide the necessary social interaction for elderly individuals, allowing them to feel equal to other members of the community despite mobility restrictions and the inability to attend offline events.

Project Goals:

The project aims to combat loneliness among elderly members of the community through joint activities, as well as to maintain social connections within our community. Additionally, within the project, our beneficiaries learn more about community life and have the opportunity to observe important traditions.

Role of Volunteers:

The project "Shabbat Guest" is organized with the support of volunteers, whose efforts are focused on preparing and conducting events on the premises of our "golden age" beneficiaries. Volunteers engage in baking challah and delivering them along with other festival attributes to the homes of elderly individuals. Their tasks also include communicating with elderly individuals and providing them with necessary assistance.

Project Results:

Elderly members of our community with limited mobility acknowledge the tremendous benefit of the project in terms of upholding traditions and establishing connections within the community. They also report improvements in psychological well-being and emotional state due to regular interaction with volunteers and participation in the life of our community. The project effectively addresses loneliness among individuals in the "golden age," which positively impacts their quality of life.
