The "Shabbat in Every Home" Project

Engaging less mobile elderly community members in community life and celebrating Shabbat even under conditions of isolation

The project aims to create conditions for the social integration of less mobile elderly community members by delivering traditional Shabbat items and organizing shared gatherings, helping to overcome loneliness and supporting the traditions of the Jewish community.

Project Description:

The project involves volunteers delivering challah, candles, and other holiday items to the homes of less mobile elderly community members. After delivery, joint Shabbat gatherings are held, including conversation and shared time. Volunteers also organize Shabbat events for teenagers, youth, and other community members, fostering intergenerational support and strengthening the sense of community.

Project Goals:

  • Support less mobile elderly individuals in observing Shabbat traditions.
  • Ensure social integration and reduce feelings of loneliness.
  • Encourage participation of different generations in community life and strengthen intergenerational ties.
  • Improve the quality of life for elderly members while preserving cultural traditions.

Role of Volunteers:

  • Deliver Shabbat items to the homes of less mobile elderly community members.
  • Host joint Shabbat gatherings with beneficiaries.
  • Organize and conduct Shabbat events for teenagers, youth, and other community members.
  • Promote social integration and create an atmosphere of mutual support and community.

Project Outcomes:

  • Less mobile elderly members are engaged in community life and can celebrate Shabbat comfortably.
  • Loneliness among elderly community members is reduced.
  • Social activity of volunteers, teenagers, and youth is increased.
  • Intergenerational ties are strengthened, and Shabbat cultural traditions are preserved within the community.
