Generational Connection
A volunteer master class for participants of the Jewish community: children and wards of the "golden" age.
As part of the Purim celebration, volunteers from the Chernihiv Volunteer Community took part in the all-Ukrainian charitable campaign "Bring Joy."
Following the commandments of this wonderful holiday, volunteers organized a culinary master class in which both the elderly participants of the Hesed "Day Center" program and youth from the AJT Boker Junior club participated. Considering the diverse ages of the participants, the master class was aptly named "Purim: Generational Connection."
The master class focused on the culinary traditions of Purim, but instead of the well-known hamantaschen cookies, volunteers suggested preparing another traditional cookie, the recipe of which has been passed down from generation to generation. Our wards of the "golden age" shared their known recipes, while the children added new ingredients to them.
As a result, a new delicacy was born, with shapes as unusual as its composition. Soon, "Stars of David," "Purim masks," and bright "butterflies" adorned the table.
Despite their age, participants of the master class enthusiastically immersed themselves in the process of making the delicacy. Children and adults engaged in active communication, helping each other, and exchanging cheerful remarks. Spending time together brought the participants closer, as they united their efforts for a better result.
We thank the volunteers for the wonderful master class, where participants gained new culinary knowledge and also felt the joy of interacting with others, managing to establish a connection between different generations!
