Transportation of found matzevot.

Volunteers transported Jewish tombstones to the Jewish cemetery

Volunteers, with the help of a manipulator, transported Jewish tombstones that were found in a spontaneous landfill in one of the districts of the city.

There are already more than 250 ancient matzevot found there.

Before the second World War, two large Jewish cemeteries functioned in Lviv. With the arrival of the Nazis, the cemeteries were destroyed, this trend was continued by the Soviet government. Matzevot were used for paving streets and roads, as well as for the construction of structures for economic purposes.

Since 2017, volunteers have been collecting the found tombstones and taking them to the old Jewish cemetery. The idea is to build a memorial monument in the future.
