Hamantaschen for the Purim celebration
At the hamantaschen making master class, children and teenagers, along with volunteers, explored the traditions of Purim.
Jews worldwide eagerly anticipate the wonderful holiday of Purim, symbolizing the miraculous salvation of the Jewish people from the Persians. The holiday is always accompanied by abundant feasting and delicious treats, with one of the main dishes being hamantaschen - delicious triangular pastries with filling. To properly celebrate Purim, our volunteers offered children and teenagers a culinary master class to prepare this wonderful delicacy.
The triangular shape of hamantaschen is not random - it symbolizes the defeat of the ancient persecutor of the Jews, Haman, who can be called the first known antisemite. The triangular shape of the cookie is a reference to the triangular hat worn by Haman. It's no wonder that every thrifty housewife has hamantaschen on the holiday table for Purim.
The master class sparked great interest among the participants. Before moving on to making hamantaschen, attendees enriched their knowledge with new facts related to Jewish traditions and the Purim holiday. Thanks to the efforts of the volunteers, children and teenagers were imbued with historical memory and felt part of the Jewish people.
Next came the practical part of the master class. Here, the participants were able to showcase their culinary skills to the fullest! The kids enthusiastically debated, choosing the best filling for the hamantaschen, and also used unconventional ingredients to make their cookies special. The result exceeded all expectations! Delicious and aromatic hamantaschen left no one indifferent.
We express immense gratitude to the volunteers for their initiative and commitment to upholding Jewish traditions by passing them on to the younger generation. The participants of the master class not only gained culinary knowledge but also became part of the multifaceted culture of our people!
